Kings Clipstone's layout since the 17th century.

Maps as far back as 1630 show the village much as it is today.

The village before 1800

The village is substantially the same as it was 100 years ago. We know that the layout has changed little since the 1630 map of the village but it is the archeologists view that the layout  evolved in feudal times when the palace was occupied by the Plantagenet Kings.

Kings Clipstone's rich and varied past stretching back 1600 years to Roman times, if suitably presented would provide a very important additional experience for visitors.

There is a wealth of recorded details stretching back 1000 years, with parliaments, royal hunts, battles and burials, follies, industrial developments, peasants and princes, there are so many rich seams to mine.

The map on the right is based on maps from 1630 and 1754. The map below from 2005.
