About the Project

The Kings Clipstone Project, a community led campaign was started in 2006 by residents after an audit of historical and environmental sites in and around the village. The scale of the neglect and loss was appalling and we realised that if we didn’t act key sites were going to be lost.

The Newark & Sherwood Local Plan identifies the Maun Valley between Clipstone and Edwinstowe as a prime location for a new visitor attraction to take the pressure off the existing hotspots of Sherwood Forest and Rufford Country Parks.

We found the prospect of thousands of tourists tied to their cars descending on our village appalling and set about designing a completely new model that was environmental friendly, sustainable and actually saved the Forest.

A key concept quickly emerged that the only way to experience all that the Forest had to offer was to walk or cycle through it. We needed to formalise the existing path system and create new links between all the sites, especially the existing Country Parks which serve as the gateways to the network.

Since 2006 we have been working with ket partners such as the County Council and English Heritage to secure the future of our part of Sherwood Forest.
