Why we need our own parish

Becoming a separate parish would help protect our identity

Having our own parish council to act as a community focus will give us more say in the future of our community.  It would also allow us to act as a beacon for other Sherwood Forest communities.

Our own parish would be able to

·       Foster our existing unique identity and community spirit.

·       Deliver effective, convenient and accessible local government.

·       Improve wider community cohesion across Sherwood Forest.

·       Be able to understand and react to local concerns.

10 good reasons for our own parish council.

  1. Act as a community focus to enhance community spirit.
  2. Bring good housekeeping to the public parts of the village improving the look and maintenance of the village both badly neglected by Clipstone Parish Council.
  3. Protect the rural heart of Sherwood Forest.
  4. Stop the village being absorbed by New Clipstone.
  5. Support residents campaigning for improvements to the village such as gateways schemes to slow down traffic entering the village and passing through Gorsethorpe.
  6. Spend a fairer percentage of the £8,000(about) we pay to Clipstone Parish on our village. The only service Clipstone Parish Council now provides is a single dog bin.
  7. Tap funds we couldn’t otherwise get.
  8. Carry out the Kings Clipstone Village Action Plan.
  9. Sort out the name/postal address problem once and for all.
  10. We are the only significant large village without our own parish council.

The official Newark & Sherwood Local Plan contains a list of ‘large villages’. Except for Averham(161), Staythorpe(73) & Kelham(153) which have combined because they are all smaller,  our village is the only one of any reasonable size that doesn’t have its own parish council.
